Audiomulch (or audio drivers) hangs after a few hours of playback

Hi!

I'm using 2.2.4 together with an RME 800 fireface soundcard on Win 7, ASIO drivers, and after a few hours Audiomulch hangs, it is responsive but no audio output. Restarting audiomulch brings back audio. Used the same hardware setup with Win XP and Audiomulch 1.0 and ASIO drivers previously, and it could play for weeks without interruptions.

Tried to set latency high (1024 samples), disabled AntiVirus, disabled windows update and so on, no improvement.

Are other drivers more stable? What can I do? I really need stability... I don't need low latency though, and I don't use any input channels, only generated audio and FilePlayer contraptions. CPU load is not an issue, unless other processes kick in (defrag?).

Hey Mikael

There is no more stable driver in the world of audio! Despite being 11 years old they're still updating it (and selling the interface) and having just benchmarked performance against the new 802 in one of my work roles I can tell you, while there has been some improvement from a latency stability perspective it's not been significant.

Ross will probably want to respond to the rest of this thread but it would be helpful to know how it's currently connected (FW400 or FW800) and whether using standard motherboard firewire implementation of some other card. If you can identify the firewire chipset (VIA, Texas Instruments...) that may be useful info and also whether or not your experiences have occured in tandem with any other hardware changes etc (are you running more peripheral devices connected to your computer etc). Of course it may be a Mulch issue but the more specific info you can provide about the situation and any changes to the situation the easier it may be to debug. 

Certainly if the timing of the dropouts is fairly regular you may certainly wish to optimise the activation/deactivation of potentially disruptive processes/services. "Windows 7 audio tweaks" might be a worthwhile google search.

Thanks for your reply. I will try to link to images/screendumps where version numbers are visible.

As I mention in my post my previous experiende is that Audiomulch + RME 800 is a rock stable setup, and I hope I can beat the bugs out of my updated setup as well.

I have now made extensive testing, and after a purge and reinstall of the RME drivers the issues has dissappeared. So now it is again rock stable, and I have no clues to what caused issue in the first place.
