I had assumed, right up until this moment, that MidiIn contraptions can read MIDI files, just like SoundIn can read (and loop) audio files. I am a little surprised that this is not so at all. Would it be easy enough to make it so? It would simplify some things I have planned a lot.
You can use temper vst to read midi files inside Audiomulch. You just set each track in temper to output "midi to host". Just set the midi channel for each track in temper and in AM you just setup whatever VSTi you are using to the corresponding midi channel. (same has whatever track in temper).

There are currently no plans to go in that direction.
MIDI routing in AudioMulch is provided for live use (routing from controllers) and for using plug-ins that can deal with MIDI.
We understand that you might see this is a limitation if you want to do MIDI sequencing. However, AudioMulch is focused on audio processing -- if you see it as a limitation then your options are either to use plug-ins that deal with MIDI, or use something else other than AudioMulch.
Sorry if this seems blunt but I think it's important that you understand our priorities.
You could try this plugin (just found out about it, not tried it myself):
