You can automate the Active parameter of the FilePlayer (if there's a file loaded you can right-click on the FilePlayer's play button to do this. If the Auto Rewind check box is not checked, then active will just toggle playing without it rewinding to the start.

Why not stop it playing on the timeline then restart it? Or have I missed something- does that restart it from the beginning only?
