I am a long time AM user, switched over to Mac around 2 years ago. I upgraded to AM 2 as soon as I heard it had been brought over to Mac. It was a happy day. But....
Since then, I haven't been able to configure the audio input and output in AM, using my RME Fireface 400. AM plays fine as stereo output (channels 1 and 2 only), but when I try to route audio through the SoundIn / SoundOut, or Aux channels, to different ins/outs on the Fireface, nothing happens. It seems the assignments between AM and the Fireface aren't working, or they don't agree with each other.
Under "Preferences" > "Audio Driver", I have "Core Audio" selected (there are no other options, BTW). And under "Core Audio Settings", the Fireface 400 is set up as both my "Input Device" and "Output Device".
Under "Preferences" > "Audio Driver" > "Audio Input", I have the Fireface 400 selected as the device. Same with "..." > "..." > "Audio Output".
But when I try to configure the left and right channel assignments (e.g. SoundIn, AuxIn1, etc.) to the Fireface, nothing happens. In the drop down menus under "Left" and "Right", all I get is a list, numbered 1 to 18, of "Built-in Microphone". These do not seem to correspond to the inputs and outputs of the Fireface, as they produce no results I select them, no matter the combination.
I have updated all of my flash and driver software for the Fireface, but still no luck. I have also tried many different configurations in my Fireface "Matrix" and "Mixer" software consoles, but nothing changes. The Fireface handles routing just fine in Logic and Live, and while I am aware that these are different software packages, the problem seem to be isolated to AM.
So, after all of the above, I am wondering -- have any other users here had the same problem using AM with a Fireface? I am likely missing something, somewhere in the myriad of options and menus. I couldn't find any mention in the AM forums, or elsewhere online.
I really like AM, but I have been limited to exporting .WAV files, for use in other software, without the use of external gear. I miss the days when I could hook AM up to my mixer and a bunch of gear and really let fly. I used to use AM's mixing capabilities all the time with my old M-Audio Delta 1010 on my desktop PC, and then with an Emu-1616 on a PC laptop. AM was the nerve center. Now, I've been hobbled, limited to working in the box, which is a shame.
If anybody has any suggestions, or questions about the above, I would really appreciate your help.
All best wishes --
thermal
P.S. - I meant to mention in the above that I have already updated to AM 2.1.0, too. Still no luck.
