switching from two different sound cards setups

I need to switch from two different sound cards.
One has a complex routing using many physical out/inputs and the other is using just sound in/out.
How can I save these two so that I don't need to reassign all the aux and sound ins/outs each time I swap the soundcard ?
I'm on Win xp sp 3

thanks,
Luca

Hi Luca

I know you've requested this as a feature before, and it is planned (although not yet implemented).

For now, if you are comfortable with regedit you could do the following steps.

VERY IMPORTANT: IF YOU MAKE A MISTAKE AND CORRUPT YOUR REGISTRY YOU COULD BREAK YOUR WINDOWS INSTALL AND LOOSE EVERYTHING. DO NOT TRY THIS IF YOU ARE NOT AN EXPERT. MERGING RANDOM .REG FILES INTO YOUR REGISTRY IS A GOOD WAY TO INSTALL VIRUSES. I MAKE NO WARRANTIES ABOUT THIS TECHNIQUE AND TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU CHOOSE TO USE IT. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

But if you are sick of reconfiguring AudioMulch i/o perhaps the risk is worth it...

A. How to export the current AudioMulch audio settings to a .reg file

Set up AM with the audio settings you want to save. Quit AM.

Run Regedit.exe from the Windows Start menu by selecting: Start > Run... then type regedit in the box and click OK.

In regedit navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ross Bencina\AudioMulch\2.0\Audio Settings

Right-click on Audio Settings folder and choose Export. Save the .reg file somewhere. *VERY IMPORTANT* make sure the export range is set to "Selected Branch" and that it has the path specified in the previous step.

B. How to restore the previously saved audio settings from a .reg file

Make sure AM isn't running

In Windows Explorer, right-click on the .reg file you saved above. Choose "Merge" and then confirm "Yes".

Launch AM, it should use the settings you just restored.

Switching between setups

For each setup you want to be able to restore: Launch AudioMulch, make the changes to the settings. Quit AudioMulch, perform step (A) above.

Whenever you want to return to specific soundcard settings, perform step (B).

dear Ross,
thanks a lot for having taken the time to reply in such a clear way. Unfortunately my software skills are not so great to allow me to take this risky adventure by myself.
I think I will wait for when Audiomulch will offer this as a feature.

Thanks a lot for keeping it in mind !

My best,
Luca

Is this possibility is implemented in the latest version?

It is the solution with the registry

Solution with manual registry hacking should work yes. At your own risk.
