Trouble loading VST plugins in Mac OSX

I'm having trouble finding and loading plugins in AudioMulch - running OSX 10.5.8 on my MacBook. My AudioMulch parent directory doesn't contain a VST Plugins folder. I've tried refreshing Plugins in the Patcher pane with no success. I don't have a VST submenu nor can I find any way to load any plugin contraptions. What am I doing wrong? Any assistance, or links to tutorials, would be greatly appreciated.

Hi There. On OSX VST plugins usually go in:

/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST

Put your plugins there and they should work. The AudioMulch settings let you change the directory (go to Edit > Settings > VST Plugins) so check that it hasn't been changed to something else.

One thing to note is that AudioMulch on OSX only supports Universal Binary or Intel-only VST plugins. If you put a PowerPC-only plugin in the VST folder, AudioMulch will silently ignore it. Some older plugins (especially those built before 2006, when Apple first released Intel hardware) are not available in an Intel version.

If you're looking for some free Universal Binary plugins that definitely work with AudioMulch on OS X, so you can test your configuration, try MDA plugins: http://mda.smartelectronix.com/

Thanks Ross. That worked. I am unable to load my Arturia VST plugins though. I am running them in Ableton Live so I know that they're compatible.

Let me know which Arturia plugins you're having trouble with and I'll try them here. Thanks. -- Ross.

I'm trying to run: Jupiter 8-V, Minimoog, ARP2600 & CS-80V. I'm also having trouble with Novation BassStation and V Station.

Also, I'm fairly new to AM so I'm not sure what the proper set up should be to trigger my plugins once I get them going. Can I route the bassline or arp contractions into the plugins? MIDI into the plugins? Are there any tutorials out there that explain this process in detail? I'm routing AM audio into Live at the moment, but I would be prefer to do the bulk of my work in AM.

Thanks

Sorry no you can't do that.

That you can do.

The port at the top right of the contraption (in the patcher) is for MIDI input. You can use a MidiIn contraption to bring in midi from an external source (controller or other software) and patch it in the patcher. You can also use plugins which generate MIDI.

A video tutorial is on the way.. and we're working on improving the help file on this, since its really easy once you know how.

Of course you can also control the plugin's parameters using AudioMulch's MIDI control mapping system (View > Parameter Control, or the various quick-map shortcuts).
