stuttery/laggy GUI?

hey ross.

i've noticed in AM2, with the new GUI re-write and everything, when scrolling around in the parameters window, it can get very stuttery and laggy, like scrolling up and down the window. I've tried it on multiple computers, happens a lot.

Is this something that might get updated in the future? It sometimes makes me feel dizzy!

Hi. I'm not exactly sure what you're tallking about. Are you seeing the same behavior on Windows and OSX?

Short answer: I am continually refining the GUI, so if there's a problem it may get resolved in the future.

Also, Nokia claimed to have optimised GUI performance of the Qt framework between version 4.2 (used in AudioMulch 2.0.x) and 4.6 (used in AudioMulch 2.1.x) so you may see some improvements with AudioMulch 2.1

i just found this AM video on youtube but just around like 22 seconds, is sort of an example, when he is scrolling up and down. i get that a lot more pronounced, when i've tried it on other computers as well, with a lot more different contraptions, anytime i'm scrolling around the place in contraption props, it just stuters and lags.

OK, I know what you're refering to now. The properties pane background is the last thing to get redrawn so any old pixels left there from the pre-scroll state take a while to get redrawn. It's an artefact of the way the GUI framework implements scrolling. Its not something I have direct control over, but I'll look in to seeing if this can be improved. I agree it doesn't look great.

Thanks

alright.
no worries, well i'll keep looking out for it in the upcoming 2.1, you said there might be some updates the GUI framework or whatever.

i personally can't wait for 2.1, i'm hoping and have my fingers crossed that some of the visual things i have issues with might pick up after 2.1. i'm waiting for the new colour theme cause i have a lot of problems with the current black one, and i'm hoping there might be some relief with the stuttery and laggyness of the current v2.

i've been sticking to the old version 1 in the meantime, i'm hoping i don't have to stick with it after the 2.1 release.

fingers crossed.

update: I've just improved the scrolling of the contraptions pane for 2.1

If you have specific problems with the 2.0.x GUI please post them to the _bugs_ forum or email me at rossb@audiomulch.com. I do keep a list of open issues.

2.1 beta is coming along... light grey color scheme is done. just finished the time signature support. now for some final tweaks to the dynamics contraptions....
