0.9b17 Release Notes

25/8/2004 AudioMulch 0.9b17 Release Notes

AudioMulch version 0.9b17 is now available from the download page. This version will expire on November 26th 2004.

AudioMulch version 0.9b17 includes new features to support synchronising the clocks of multiple copies of AudioMulch running on different computers. The VST editor has been redesigned with sliders for every parameter, and the whole editor window is now resizable. The document switcher has been enhanced for easier use with the mouse. New desktop icons and a new drone example file are included. A number of bugs have also been fixed. See below for further details.

Generate MIDI Sync

The Generate MIDI Sync feature allows AudioMulch, or other hardware and software that can chase MIDI sync, to use AudioMulch as the master clock source. You can activate MIDI sync generation from the Control menu. The MIDI device for sending MIDI sync can be selected on the MIDI Sync page of the Settings dialog.

Network Sync

The new Generate and Chase Network Sync features allow the clocks of AudioMulch running on multiple computers connected via a network (including wireless networks) to be synchronised. To use this feature, set up one computer to generate network sync and another to chase it. You can activate generate and chase network sync from the Control menu.

Settings for Network Sync can be altered on the Network Sync page of the Settings dialog. Both the sending (generating) and receiving (chasing) computer must use the same UDP Port number (usually using the default value of 7000 is sufficient unless you run other software that uses this port). The Send to Address must be set to the IP address of the computer you wish to send sync to, or to the local broadcast address. For example, an IP address consisting of the subnet followed by .255 (eg. 192.168.0.255) will broadcast sync to all computers on that subnet.

Document Switcher Improvements

In Document Switcher, holding down the control key when loading documents by double clicking or using the return key now suppresses the save changes prompt and discards changes. Previously undocumented command line options for the Document Switcher are now documented.

Bug Fixes

The following bugs have been fixed in this release:

  • Fixed crash bug in PulseComb soon after loading with certain settings.
  • Fixed assertion failure crash when using the "inverted" checkbox in the Parameter Modulation dialog.
  • Fixed bug from 0.9b16 where VST contraptions with presets would not have their settings restored correctly.
  • Fixed bug where contraptions which were not connected when the sample rate was changed would not have the correct sample rate.
  • Fixed bug where attempting to export a zero-length segment would cause a divide-by-zero error.
  • Fixed a memory leak when cutting and pasting patcher selections.
  • Fixed display of automation preset popup menu so it is no longer obscured by the system tray.
  • Fixed display of preset popup menu so displays on the correct monitor on multiple monitor systems.
  • Fixed selection display glitch on document switcher.

CannonLooper and LiveLooper contraptions - Use at your own risk

The CannonLooper and LiveLooper contraptions which appear in the Beta category were included by accident in a previous (0.9b13) release. These contraptions are still under development and may change before they are finished. This is why there is no documentation. They have been included for users who have started using them, however it is important that you do not depend on their behavior as they will certainly change in the future.

Thanks to Helen Thomson who sponsored the development of these contraptions and contributed significantly to their design.

Reporting Bugs

Although this version has been tested it may contain new or as yet undetected bugs. If AudioMulch crashes please report it as a bug to rossb@audiomulch.com. Further details about reporting bugs are contained in the Beta.txt file which is included with the AudioMulch installation.
