AudioMulch Interactive Music Studio

0.9b16 Release Notes

19/5/2004 AudioMulch 0.9b16 Release Notes

AudioMulch version 0.9b16 is now available from the download page. This version will expire on August 20th 2004.

AudioMulch version 0.9b16 introduces expanded Export to Sound File functionality. MIDI modulation has been improved with a number of bug fixes, and a new "Use Non-Linear Scale" feature which removes the discrepancy between the scale used for on-screen knobs and sliders and the scale used for MIDI control. User interface tweaks and other important bug fixes have also been incorporated into this version.

Further details of the changes made for AudioMulch 0.9b16 are provided below.

Expanded Export to Sound File Functionality

The Export to Sound File function has been expanded with the ability to specify an Automation time range, automatically capture a reverb tail, and set the exported sample rate independently of the real-time sample rate. You can read more about the new features of the Export to Sound File functionality on it's help page.

New "Use Non-Linear Scale" Option for MIDI Parameter Modulation

MIDI modulation can now use the same non-linear scale used by on-screen knobs and sliders for all effected parameters. Non-linear scales are used for parameters such as frequency, where it is desirable to have equal slider movement per octave. Previously, on-screen sliders and knobs would work this way, but when using MIDI control a linear scale would be used. This was confusing and made it difficult to control some parameters via MIDI. The Mapping tab of the Parameter Modulation Dialog now includes a "Use Non-linear Scale" check-box which is turned on by default. When turned on, MIDI modulation for the parameter will use the same scale as the on-screen knob or slider, when turned off a linear scale will be used (this was the only mode in previous versions of AudioMulch). The "Use Non-linear Scale" check-box is only displayed for parameters which can use a non-linear scale. Old documents using MIDI control are loaded with non-linear scale turned off to ensure backwards compatibility.

Other Changes and Improvements

  • Improved Patcher Insert Before/After to allow insertion before or after a contraption which is not yet connected.
  • Added colored contraption editor title bars to indicate patcher selection.
  • New meaningful state icons for LiveLooper channels.
  • Added ability to select contraption Parameter Modulation from patcher context menu.
  • Implemented VST latency information to improve freewire support.

Bug Fixes

  • Stopped altering priority settings when using Windows Multimedia drivers, previously this was causing glitches on some systems.
  • Fixed Patcher Swap bug where only one connection would be selected after a swap, and repeating the swap would crash.
  • Fixed bugs in automation time display which would cause crashes when using Chinese language settings.
  • Fixed bug in SouthPole where envelopes were being triggered even when the clock wasn't running.
  • Fixed assertion failure crash when loading VST program banks with some plugins.
  • Fixed bug where VST parameters were not saved in the document or in presets if the plugin didn't call audioMasterAutomate.
  • Fixed problem with MIDI-modulated range sliders jumping when using smoothing and 'crossed' values.
  • Fixed bug where undoing a delete of a contraption with a MIDI-modulated range parameter would cause the minimum MIDI control source to be cleared to None.
  • Fixed bug where range parameters would go to full-range when audio was first enabled if they were MIDI controlled.
  • Fixed bug where range max-range MIDI modulation didn't work as documented.
  • Fixed "missing export KERNEL.32DLL:GetFileAttributesExA" bug on Windows 95.

CannonLooper and LiveLooper contraptions - Use at your own risk

The CannonLooper and LiveLooper contraptions which appear in the Beta category were included by accident in a previous (0.9b13) release. These contraptions are still under development and may change before they are finished. This is why there is no documentation. They have been included for users who have started using them, however it is important that you do not depend on their behavior as they will certainly change in the future.

Thanks to Helen Thomson who sponsored the development of these contraptions and contributed significantly to their design.

Reporting Bugs

Although this version has been tested it may contain new or as yet undetected bugs. If AudioMulch crashes please report it as a bug to rossb@audiomulch.com. Further details about reporting bugs are contained in the Beta.txt file which is included with the AudioMulch installation.
